7 Days Tanzania Wildlife Safari
Trip Overview
The annual wildebeest migration, marked by the iconic Mara River crossings, commences in July, progressing northwards through the Lobo and Wagakuria regions en route to the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
By September, the wildebeest herds have dispersed across the expanse of the northern Serengeti National Park and the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Notably, certain sizable wildebeest groups opt to linger in this territory, and shifts in weather patterns may occasionally entice these herds to return from the Mara. As October arrives, the migration takes a southerly trajectory, heading towards the heart of the central Serengeti National Park.

Day by day description
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha – Welcome to Tanzania
Your adventure begins at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where the crisp African air and distant views of Mount Meru greet you. After meeting your safari guide, you’ll transfer to your lodge in Arusha.
Arusha is more than a gateway town it’s where excitement builds. Nestled in the shadow of volcanic peaks, it’s surrounded by lush landscapes and coffee plantations. Spend the evening resting or strolling through the lodge gardens, knowing that tomorrow, your safari begins.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park – The Land of Giants
The first stop is Tarangire National Park, famous for its vast elephant herds and towering baobab trees. The Tarangire River winds through the park, acting as a lifeline that draws animals year-round.
On your game drive, elephants wander gracefully across the savannah, giraffes stretch for acacia leaves, and zebras cluster in striking black-and-white patterns. Lions often lounge in the shade, waiting for the right moment to strike. With over 500 bird species, Tarangire is also a paradise for birdwatchers.
By sunset, you retreat to your lodge or camp, the sound of cicadas and distant calls of wildlife accompanying dinner under the stars.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park – Into the Endless Plains
Today, the road leads you to the legendary Serengeti National Park. Its name, meaning “endless plains” in Maasai, becomes clear as the grasslands stretch endlessly before you.
You arrive in the Seronera region, a hotspot for wildlife thanks to the Seronera River. Lions patrol territories, leopards rest high in acacia branches, and cheetahs scan the horizon for prey. Herds of wildebeests and gazelles graze in numbers too large to count, while hyenas lurk nearby.
As evening falls, your camp or lodge in the Serengeti becomes home for the night. Here, the stars shine brighter, and the distant roars of lions remind you that you’re in the wild heart of Africa.
Day 4: Serengeti – Witnessing the Great Migration
Another full day in the Serengeti means more time to explore its ever-changing landscapes. Depending on the season, you may witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural events.
Imagine thousands of wildebeests and zebras moving as one, filling the horizon in search of greener pastures. It’s a spectacle of survival and instinct, closely followed by predators that rely on the chaos for their next meal.
Even outside migration season, the Serengeti delivers unforgettable moments: elephants moving silently through the grass, giraffes silhouetted against the sunset, and hippos wallowing in pools.
Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro – Journey Through Time
After breakfast, enjoy a final Serengeti game drive before leaving the plains behind. On your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you may stop at Olduvai Gorge, an archaeological site where some of the earliest human remains were discovered — a powerful reminder of our shared origins.
By evening, you arrive at your lodge perched on the crater rim. The first glimpse of the Ngorongoro Crater is unforgettable: clouds drift across the highlands, and below lies a vast, green caldera filled with life. Tonight, you fall asleep with one of the most dramatic views in Africa just outside your window.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – The Eighth Wonder of the World
Wake early for a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to over 25,000 animals, including lions, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, and the rare black rhino.
The crater floor feels like a living amphitheater flamingos line the soda lakes in soft pink hues, hippos laze in the swamps, and predators prowl the grasslands. The sheer density of wildlife means every moment brings a new discovery.
After a full day of exploration, return to your lodge on the crater rim. The sunset here is something to savor the light spilling across the vast caldera creates a memory you’ll carry forever.
Day 7: Departure – Cherish the Memories
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your lodge, taking in the last sweeping views of the Ngorongoro Crater. Afterwards, journey back to Arusha, passing through highland farms and lively villages.
Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time to explore local craft markets before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
Though your safari ends today, the memories remain: the sunsets over the Serengeti, the elephants of Tarangire, and the breathtaking beauty of Ngorongoro will stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
