The rainforest fades as you climb into the open moorland. The landscape transforms into rugged terrain dotted with heather and volcanic rock.
The trail ascends steeply through ridges and valleys before leveling out onto the Shira Plateau, where Shira Camp rests beneath a vast sky. From here, you can admire the majestic Mount Meru floating in the distance at sunset.

Today’s trek focuses on acclimatization — a vital step for summit success. You’ll ascend steadily toward the Lava Tower, a striking volcanic formation nicknamed the “Shark’s Tooth.”

As night falls, the horizon glows with starlight, and anticipation fills the crisp mountain air. Enjoy an early dinner and rest — your summit push begins at midnight.

Your summit day begins between midnight and 2 a.m., as you ascend in silence under a canopy of stars. The climb is steady and demanding, with the crunch of volcanic gravel beneath your boots.
As dawn breaks, you’ll reach Stella Point on the crater rim, greeted by a golden sunrise over the endless African plains. From there, the final push leads to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa.
Celebrate your triumph at 5,895 meters, capturing photos of a lifetime. Then, descend carefully to Mweka Camp, where a hot meal and well-earned rest await after one of life’s greatest achievements.
