After breakfast, depart from Moshi for the scenic drive to Lemosho Gate, where park formalities are completed. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, alive with exotic bird calls and playful blue monkeys. The gentle ascent through moss-draped trees leads to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, your first night’s stop on the mountain.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Altitude: 2,785 m to 3,500 m
Hiking Time: 5 – 6 hours
Habitat: Moorland

Today’s trail ascends steeply out of the forest and into the heath and moorland zone. As the trees thin, sweeping views of the Shira Plateau and distant peaks emerge. The air becomes cooler and crisper as you approach Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll rest beneath the stars.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Altitude: 3,500 m to 3,850 m
Hiking Time: 4 – 5 hours
Habitat: Moorland / Semi-Desert

A relaxed and scenic day unfolds as you traverse the vast Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful high-altitude plains. The terrain flattens, offering stunning views of Kibo’s snow-capped summit and Mount Meru in the distance. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, your base for the night.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Moir Hut

Altitude: 3,850 m to 4,200 m
Hiking Time: 5 – 6 hours
Habitat: Semi-Desert

Leaving Shira 2, the trail heads north toward the rarely visited Moir Hut, tucked beneath Lent Hills. This area offers solitude and excellent acclimatization. In the afternoon, you can take a short acclimatization hike on the nearby ridges for breathtaking views of the plains below.

Altitude: 4,200 m to 4,020 m
Hiking Time: 5 – 7 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Today’s trek takes you across the northern flank of Kilimanjaro — a remote, untamed stretch offering complete tranquility. The route rises and falls gently as you cross a series of ridges and valleys, with wide-open vistas in every direction.

You’ll reach Buffalo Camp by afternoon, perfectly positioned for stargazing under the vast African sky.

Day 6: Buffalo Camp to Third Cave

Altitude: 4,020 m to 3,870 m
Hiking Time: 4 – 5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Day 7: Third Cave to School Hut

Altitude: 3,870 m to 4,800 m
Hiking Time: 4 – 5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Today’s trek leads toward School Hut, your final camp before the summit push. The landscape becomes stark and lunar-like, emphasizing the immense scale of the mountain. Arriving by mid-afternoon, you’ll rest early and prepare your gear for the night ahead — the final ascent to Uhuru Peak.
