Day by day description

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Selous – Game Drive Safari

Your adventure begins early with a pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Dar es Salaam. The drive to Nyerere National Park introduces you to the rural landscapes of Southern Tanzania before arriving at the park’s gates.

Once inside, embark on your first game drive. With a picnic lunch enjoyed under the shade of acacia trees, you’ll spend the day traversing open savannas, woodlands, and wetlands in search of wildlife. Be on the lookout for lions on the prowl, elephants grazing, zebras and wildebeests in herds, playful impalas, and the rare African hunting dogs. Hippos and crocodiles often line the riverbanks, while the skies are alive with bird calls.

As the day winds down, you’ll head to Matembezi Safari Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Rufiji River Boat Safari – Return to Dar es Salaam

Awaken to the golden glow of the sunrise as you set out for a morning game drive. The cooler hours of the day are the best time to spot predators returning from the night’s hunt and animals beginning their daily routines.

Later in the morning, shift gears for a boat safari on the Rufiji River, one of Selous’ signature experiences. Drift along the waters as pods of hippos surface around you, crocodiles bask on the banks, and flocks of birds glide overhead — a peaceful yet thrilling way to experience the park’s ecosystem.

After the boat safari, enjoy your packed lunch before starting the return drive to Dar es Salaam. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel, the airport, or the seaport, marking the end of your short but unforgettable Selous safari adventure.
