Day by day description
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park – The Rufiji River Safari
Your journey begins with an early pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Dar es Salaam. You’ll drive through Tanzania’s southern circuit to reach Nyerere National Park, the country’s largest protected area and home to an astonishing variety of wildlife.
After checking into Matembezi Safari Lodge and enjoying lunch, you’ll set off on a boat safari along the Rufiji River. Watch hippos wallow, crocodiles glide silently through the water, and flocks of birds fill the skies. The setting sun paints the river in golden hues, creating the perfect end to your first day. Dinner and overnight stay at Matembezi Safari Lodge.

Day 2: Nyerere to Mikumi – From Wild Rivers to Open Plains
After breakfast, head out for a morning game drive in Nyerere National Park. With luck, you may spot lions, elephants, wild dogs, and an array of birdlife across the park’s varied landscapes. A picnic lunch keeps you fueled as you journey onward.
In the afternoon, drive through the scenic Uluguru Mountains, where rolling hills and rural villages offer glimpses of everyday Tanzanian life. By evening, you’ll arrive in Mikumi National Park, where the savanna stretches endlessly. Dinner and overnight stay at Camp Bastian.

Wake up to the call of the wild and spend the day on game drives through Mikumi National Park. This park is often compared to the Serengeti, with its vast floodplains filled with giraffes, elephants, lions, wildebeest, and zebras. Your guide will take you deep into the park to maximize wildlife sightings.
