After an early breakfast, drive to Machame Gate, where your adventure officially begins. The trek starts through the lush rainforest, filled with exotic birds, butterflies, and playful blue monkeys. As you ascend gradually beneath the forest canopy, listen to the rustling leaves and distant waterfalls. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Machame Camp, where a warm dinner and a cozy night under the stars await.
Day 2: Machame Hut to Shira Cave
Altitude: 2,835 m to 3,750 m
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland / Heath
Leaving the dense rainforest behind, the trail opens into the heath and moorland zone. The day’s hike offers sweeping views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance. Unique alpine flora surrounds you as you approach Shira Cave Camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner and rest while soaking in the mountain serenity.

Altitude: 3,750 m to 4,630 m (Lava Tower), then down to 3,960 m
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Habitat: Semi-Desert
This is a key acclimatization day. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower (4,630 m), a towering volcanic formation with breathtaking views, before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adjust to the altitude. As you descend, the views of the Great Barranco Wall and the surrounding valleys are simply spectacular. Settle in for dinner surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Altitude: 3,960 m to 3,995 m

Start the morning with the thrilling ascent of the Barranco Wall, one of Kilimanjaro’s most exciting challenges. Once you conquer the wall, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views across the plains below. Continue along undulating ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp, where you’ll relax and enjoy a hot dinner while watching the sunset over the peaks.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Altitude: 3,995 m to 4,673 m
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Today’s trail takes you to Barafu Camp, your final base before the summit. The landscape becomes increasingly barren as you climb higher into the alpine desert zone. Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner and rest in preparation for your midnight summit attempt. The camp offers stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks, building anticipation for the climb ahead.

Altitude: 4,673 m to 5,895 m (Uhuru Peak), then down to 3,100 m
Hiking Time: 11–15 hours (ascent and descent)
Habitat: Arctic (summit) / Moorland (descent)
Your summit day begins just after midnight. Equipped with headlamps and determination, you’ll ascend steadily toward Stella Point on the crater rim. As dawn breaks, the first rays of sunlight illuminate the glaciers—a truly unforgettable sight. Push on to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement and taking in the incredible views, descend to Mweka or Millennium Camp for a hearty meal and well-earned rest.
Day 7: Mweka or Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate, Return to Moshi or Arusha
Altitude: 3,100 m to 1,640 m
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
