Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport

Your adventure begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport. Take in the sights and sounds of Tanzania as you prepare for your Kilimanjaro expedition.

Day 2: Rongai Gate to Second Cave

Your trek begins at the Rongai Gate. As you set out, you’ll experience the unique scenery of Kilimanjaro’s northern side. The trail leads to Second Cave, where you’ll set up camp for the night. This initial day on the trail is filled with anticipation as you start your ascent.

Day 3: Second Cave to Third Cave

Today, your journey continues from the Second Cave to the Third Cave. The path becomes steeper and more challenging, and you’ll gradually gain altitude. As you make your way through the alpine terrain, you’ll appreciate the rugged beauty of Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes.

Day 4: Third Cave to Kibo Hut

The trail now takes you to Kibo Hut, your base for the summit attempt. The landscape becomes increasingly barren as you approach the lunar-like terrain of Kibo. This is your final stop before the ultimate challenge of ascending to Uhuru Peak. Spend the evening resting and mentally preparing for the summit push.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, Then Horombo Hut

Summit day has arrived. In the early hours, you’ll embark on the challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The sense of accomplishment and the breathtaking views from the summit are truly unparalleled. After celebrating your success, you’ll descend to Horombo Hut, reflecting on your achievement.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

On your final day, you’ll continue your descent from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. The landscape transitions from alpine terrain to lush rainforest as you approach the gate. Take this time to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve undertaken and the personal growth you’ve experienced. Your Kilimanjaro adventure concludes at Marangu Gate before you return to your destination.

Climbing FAQ

More than 30,000 hikers visit the famous mountain, known as the roof of Africa, each year, drawn not just by its height but also by the panorama it offers. While scaling Mount Kilimanjaro is not for the faint of heart, many trekking aficionados have it on their bucket list to reach the mountain’s snow-capped summit.

The dry season, which lasts from June to October and December to March, offers beautiful scenery, a clear view, and a high success rate for summit attempts.

In our opinion. The Machame Route comes in second, followed by the Lemosho Route, while the Rongai Route comes in third.

The gateway to both Kilimanjaro and the safari is Kilimanjaro International Airport. From there, you’ll be driven an hour to Moshi town or an hour to Arusha City for the night. Drive to the gates of the Kilimanjaro mountain park the following day.

You need all of the equipment from the Kilimanjaro Climb Gear List as well as layered clothing because the summit is extremely cold.
